Robin Walker

Sponsored hymn play at St Martin’s London Road

Robin Walker was born in Sussex where he we did all his formative education. He learnt piano with Hilary Needham and Organ with Angela Barker and was assistant organist at Crawley Down. He studied music at Huddersfield and Reading, where he qualified as a teacher.

He began his teaching career in Farnborough in 1975. For twelve years from 1978 he was Director of Music at Crosfields Preparatory School in Reading and for a further eleven years he was Director of Music at Yateley Manor Preparatory School.

His church connections in that area began in 1975 when he became Organist at St Andrew’s Presbyterian Garrison Church, Aldershot. From October 1981 for 18 years he was organist and choirmaster at St Michael’s Parish Church in Aldershot, and for the following 7 years he was Director of Music and Organist at St Michael’s Parish Church in Basingstoke. Both these churches had strong choral traditions. Following a move to Worcester, Robin became organist at St George’s Church, Worcester, and from May 2007 until May 2016 was Organist and Director of Music at St Mary’s Church, Old Swinford in Stourbridge – another strong choral tradition.

Having given up class teaching in 2001, he started to give private lessons on the piano, organ and in theory of music.

Robin has worked as an accompanist to choirs and choral societies for rehearsals and performances and has accompanied church choirs on their visits to several of the country’s cathedrals. He also accompanies for grade music examinations.
